Most of my stories explore themes of 'broken realism' - when the world is beautifully damaged and people do the things that they never thought they would just to get by. There is usually a hint of magic in any novel, carefully hidden under layers of whatever else the author wants the reader to find - in my novels the magic is in the world that we see every day and the people who live within it.
